Islands of Wonder Remote Island & Wildlife Boat Adventure
Description
This four-hour boat adventure is all about spending real time on Sitka’s water and coastline, not rushing from one sight to the next. It’s a small-group experience, limited to six guests, which keeps things relaxed and personal from start to finish.
You’ll head out from downtown Sitka aboard a comfortable boat and begin moving through the islands and channels of Sitka Sound. There’s no set route for the day. Where we go depends on the weather, the tides, and what wildlife is active. That might mean slowing down to watch a humpback whale surface nearby, drifting past sea otters resting in kelp, or scanning rocky shorelines for sea lions, bald eagles, and seabirds. Along the way, you’ll hear clear, down-to-earth explanations about what you’re seeing and how life here is shaped by the ocean.
About halfway through the four-hour tour, the boat pulls up to a quiet, remote island. You’ll step ashore for a break from the water and some time on land. The walk is easy and unhurried. You can look into tide pools, wander along beaches covered in driftwood, or simply stand still and enjoy how quiet it feels. Snacks and warm drinks are provided, and there’s time to explore at your own pace.
The return trip takes a different path through Sitka Sound, giving you more chances to spot wildlife or take photos as the day winds down. By the time you’re back at the harbor, most guests feel like they’ve truly slowed down and spent meaningful time in Alaska’s coastal wilderness, not just passed through it.
