Description

Soaring above the Misty Fjords is one of the most unforgettable ways to experience Alaska's untamed beauty. Step aboard a legendary DeHavilland Beaver or Otter floatplane and take to the skies for an aerial adventure over 2.3 million acres of protected wilderness. Towering granite cliffs, glacial-carved fjords, serene alpine lakes, and cascading waterfalls stretch as far as the eye can see.

Your journey begins with a convenient pick-up just steps from the cruise docks, followed by a short transfer to the floatplane base. After a brief orientation, you’ll lift off from the water and head deep into the Alaskan backcountry. Throughout the flight, your experienced bush pilot provides live narration via noise-canceling headsets, offering insight into the landscape, history, and local wildlife. With a guaranteed window seat for every passenger, you’ll enjoy uninterrupted views throughout the flight.

The exact route may vary based on weather, making each flight unique. You might head south for sights like New Eddystone Rock and Big Goat Lake, or venture north toward Neets Bay and Bell Island Hot Springs. Both routes showcase stunning natural wonders and offer excellent chances to spot bald eagles, mountain goats, moose, and even brown or black bears.

Whether it's your first time in Alaska or you're returning for more adventure, the Misty Fjords Flightseeing Tour delivers a once-in-a-lifetime perspective on the region’s raw, breathtaking beauty.

*With respect for full transparency, we want to let our guests know that there have been tragic fatal accidents on the Misty Fjords flight in years past. While small aircraft is the main mode of transportation in Alaska, there will always be risks. Our operating partner, Taquan Air, takes every precaution to make the most informed decision about flight conditions for that day and will cancel the tour if weather poses any threat. Their pilots are extensively trained, monitor weather conditions closely, and fly with at least 4 miles of visibility. The company has also voluntarily adopted safety practices beyond those required by federal standards. *

Description

An experience that tops many travelers' lists, the Helicopter & Dogsled Glacier Excursion is one of Juneau's top-rated shore excursions, and with good reason! Guests load up for a thrilling helicopter ride that in itself provides jaw-dropping views and endless glaciated scenery. But the helicopter ride is just the first leg of this trip; the pilot-guide makes a remote landing on Herbert Glacier where excited dog teams are waiting to take you on a sled ride! An unforgettable ride with Alaskan huskies is set amongst a surreal backdrop of ice-capped peaks. This is one of our favorite Juneau shore excursions!

This Juneau adventure excursion begins with a pick-up at the cruise docks and a short ride over to the heli-base. Meet your pilot-guide and go over a brief safety orientation before lifting off for an unforgettable ride. Nervous excitement during take-off is quickly overwhelmed by the majestic views of the expansive glaciated icefields, snow-capped mountain peaks and a seemingly endless horizon of mountains. Your knowledgeable and skilled pilot-guide narrates the journey and soon enough you'll arrive at Herbert Glacier; don't forget this tour is just beginning.

The excitement of the Alaskan husky racers can immediately be felt, and they know that their opportunity to run is close - you won't believe the power that a team of 12-14 dogs can generate! Time with the professional mushers provides an opportunity to learn more about the teams and mushing life, a deeply rooted aspect of Alaskan and Northern culture. After the ride, re-board the helicopter for the return ride where you might say to yourself, "Did that really just happen?".

All Juneau helicopter dogsled tours: * Helicopter & Dogsled Excursion (Herbert Glacier) * Helicopter Dogsledding with Extra Landing (Herbert Glacier) * Glacier Dogsled Adventure (Norris Glacier) * Mendenhall Glacier Helicopter & Dogsled (Mendenhall Glacier)

Description

This popular Skagway tour has a little bit of everything: a catamaran cruise, rainforest hike, and a scenic canoe journey that culminates with an up-close view of Davidson Glacier! This Glacier Point Wilderness Safari is one of the most positively-reviewed excursions and is the only tour in Skagway that ventures this close to a glacier without a helicopter! Journey to a truly remote wilderness setting surrounded by awe-inspiring beauty. Its exclusivity means limited seating and only a couple departures daily, so advanced reservations are highly recommended.

The adventure starts with a 45-minute boat ride on a custom-designed catamaran with an enclosed cabin through the Lynn Canal, North America's longest and deepest fjord. This boat ride provides a whole new perspective on the area: slightly different than you will see from the cruise deck and it's common to see whales and seals along the way. Your naturalist guide provides a wealth of information as you cruise by cascading waterfalls originating from high mountain glaciers. Upon arrival at the secluded Glacier Point beach, a short bus ride takes you to base camp. From there, gear up for a ¼ mile walk where suddenly the rainforest opens up to showcase Davidson Glacier in its majestic beauty.

You'll board a motor-assisted 31-foot voyager canoe to journey towards the glacier. How close you get to the glacier depends on the weather and lake conditions, so while we can't guarantee that you'll be able to get out of the canoe and walk right up to the glacier, rest assured you'll have spectacular views either way. Return to Glacier Point for a picnic lunch on the beach and soak in those last moments of this special wilderness area before the return boat trip back to Skagway.
