Description
This 4-hour salmon fishing trip is a simple and enjoyable way to get out on the water in Ketchikan. You’ll be on a private boat with your group, and it usually doesn’t take long to reach the fishing area, leaving more time to actually fish.
Once you arrive, your guide will take care of setting up the gear and getting the lines in the water. The fishing is done by trolling with downriggers, which helps target salmon at different depths. If you’ve never done this before, don’t worry, it’s easy to pick up, and you’ll be guided through each step. If you have experience, you can settle in and enjoy the process.
Most of the time is spent waiting for a bite, watching the rods, and taking in the surroundings. When a fish hits, it’s a quick shift from calm to excitement. You’ll take turns reeling in fish, with help if needed, and it’s a fun moment whether it’s your first catch or not.
The boat has an enclosed cabin if you want a break from the wind, and rain gear is available. Light snacks and water are included, but it’s still best to dress for cool, changing weather.
If you decide to keep your catch, arrangements can be made at the end of the trip to send it to a local processor. It’s a relaxed, hands-on experience that gives you a real feel for fishing in this part of Alaska.
