Description

Every morning on the water is different, and nobody reads it better than your captain. On the Authentic Alaska Fishing Combo, you leave the decisions to a seasoned local who knows these waters by heart. Before you leave the dock, your captain weighs the tides, the weather and the latest reports from the fleet, then sets a course for wherever the fish are biting hardest. This five-hour trip is built around one idea: going where the action is.

When the salmon are running, your captain may put you on a troll through schools of pink and silver salmon, with a shot at the elusive, mighty king. If the bite is on below, you could be dropping light tackle onto schools of rockfish for nonstop fun. On a calm day, your captain may push farther offshore in search of hard-fighting Pacific cod and lingcod, or set up over the bottom for a shot at a prized Alaska halibut. Wherever the day takes you, you’ll cruise past primeval forests and mountains rising straight from the sea, with a good chance of spotting whales, porpoises, seals and more.

Your guides love catching and eating fish, and they take just as much pride in safely releasing what you don’t keep back into the wild. No experience is needed: all rods, tackle and foul-weather gear are provided, and your crew will show you everything you need to know.

Highlights

  • Captain’s Choice: Your captain picks the day’s target species and fishing grounds based on real-time conditions, so you spend your time where the fish are.
  • Alaska Sportfishing: The rich, productive waters around Ketchikan make for an angler’s paradise, with salmon, halibut, rockfish, cod and lingcod all on the table.
  • Incredible Scenery: Between bites, sit back and take in towering mountains, old-growth rainforest and a good chance of marine wildlife.
  • Keep Your Catch: Bring your adventure home. Your captain can arrange to have your catch processed and shipped anywhere in the mainland United States.

Trust the captain, grab a rod, and see where the adventure takes you!

If fishing is not for your family but you still want to get out on the water, the Ketchikan Kayak Eco Tour is a perfect way to see the pristine waters and spot some wildlife!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous fishing experience?

No experience is necessary! Our guides cater to all skill levels, providing instruction and tips along the way.

Can I keep the fish I catch?

Yes, within Alaska's limits. Your captain can arrange to have your catch processed and shipped anywhere in the mainland United States (credit card required). Fish cannot be stored on board your cruise ship. Halibut retention follows federal charter rules and requires a $20 halibut stamp, collected at the marina.

What should I wear for the fishing trip?

Dress in warm layers and comfortable clothing. Baranof provides rain gear, rubber boots, float jackets, wool socks, a hat and gloves.

Why do I need to buy a fishing permit prior to my tour?

Alaska law requires a fishing license for anglers 16 and older, residents and non-residents alike. It can't be included in the tour price because each angler has to be registered with the State. A one-day license is $15: buy it in advance at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game store (choose Shop as a Guest, then the Sport Fishing License for your dates, and bring a printed copy) or in cash at the outfitting room.

Can I choose what we fish for?

Your captain picks the target species and fishing grounds on the day, based on tides, weather and the latest reports from the fleet, so specific species can't be requested in advance. Depending on conditions you may fish for salmon, rockfish, Pacific cod, lingcod or halibut.
